Reboot: Race to Equality: UK Financial Services Report 2022
The Race to Equality: UK Financial Services Report 2022 sheds light on the challenges faced by ethnic minority professionals in the financial services sector. The report emphasizes the need for greater diversity and inclusion, highlighting the underrepresentation of ethnic minorities in senior roles. It addresses issues such as recruitment practices, career progression, and discrimination. The findings reveal that discrimination remains a significant barrier to the advancement of ethnic minority professionals. The report calls for action and outlines a three-point plan to support the financial services industry in creating a more inclusive and equitable environment. It urges collective efforts to attract and retain diverse talent and deliver better outcomes for the industry.
About the research
The methodology involved conducting research through 800 online interviews with mid-to-senior level employees in the financial services sector. The interviews included 600 ethnic minority employees and 200 white employees, representing 392 companies with a combined annual revenue of approximately £1.4 trillion. The research was carried out by Coleman Parkes in August 2022. The report provides a breakdown of the ethnicities of the participants, with 25% identifying as white, 25% as mixed or multiple ethnic groups, 19% as Asian or British Asian, 19% as Black, African, Caribbean, or Black British, and 12% from other ethnic groups.
State of us
The COVID-19 pandemic brought forth the silver lining of people opening up about their mental health at work. State of Us, a mental health network formed by Innovate Comms, CCgroup, and Coleman Parkes, aims to address the industry's mental health challenges. It offers monthly events, open dialogue, and a centralized database of mental health first aid trainers. Their goal is to educate, support, and bring about positive change in the industry by fostering a more inclusive and thriving environment.
The survey amongst 1000 PR, marketing and comms professionals in the UK revealed high levels of stress, anxiety, and burnout among PR, marketing, and communications professionals. Unfortunately, many felt unsupported by their employers.
The Gender News Gap
The "Gender News Gap" report highlights the persistent gender inequality in journalism and media. It reveals that women journalists face numerous barriers to progression, including a "macho and intimidating" workplace culture and a lack of diversity in expert contributors. The report also shows that while many journalists believe their organizations have policies and targets to improve diversity, the number of directors and founders who report monitoring diversity is low. The report concludes that there is a need for a coalition of change to bring together demand for diverse experts and supply of diverse experts to increase the visibility of diverse thought leaders.
About the research
The methodology of the "Gender News Gap" report involved conducting opinion research among 1,200 UK journalists in 2021.
